Egypt's monorail
Over the past couple of years, the Egyptian Government has been focusing on revamping the transportation system in Cairo and other parts of the country. This includes the construction of new roads, maintenance of highways, and introduction of brand-new transportation systems. Now let’s take a look at our main event – Egypt’s monorail.
Since the idea of the new monorail was proposed, it has gotten everyone’s attention. This is due to the humongous amount of advantages that will affect the lives of every Egyptian citizen.
In 2019, Egypt’s monorail turned from a dream into a reality when the National Authority for Tunnels, in partnership with 3 major construction companies, started putting concrete plans for construction.
In July 2025, the trial operations of Egypt’s monorail started, and it was initiated by the line connecting New Capital City and El-Moshir Station. The full passenger service is planned to be in 2026.
Egypt’s monorail has 2 lines:
In the next part, we will present you with everything you need to know about Egypt’s new monorail station and how it will make your life more convenient.
Egypt’s monorail project aims to increase the connectivity between Cairo and new cities (6 October and New Capital). The monorail will also help in decreasing traffic congestion and all related problems.
In simpler terms, Egypt is building the monorail to help citizens have easier and shorter commutes.
The monorail has 2 lines: the New Capital line and the 6 October line. First, the New Administrative Capital line runs for 54 km and links the metro station “Stadium” with New Administrative Capital. To be more precise, the monorail New Capital line has 21 stations, which are:
On the other hand, the 2nd line of the monorail (the 6th October city line) is 42 km long and has 12 stations, which are:
This line will connect Giza Governorate to 6th of October City and its various recreational destinations.
Using the two lines, you can easily commute from New Capital City to 6 October.
All you have to do is head to the nearest station of Egypt’s monorail ride till the end of the line, so:
The trial phase of the New Administrative Capital monorail was in July 2025. It is planned that the full passenger operation will be in 2026. The 6 October line is also planned to start operating in 2025.
Under the supervision of the National Authority for Tunnels, 3 major construction companies are working on Egypt’s monorail, and they are:
The new monorail will run at a speed of 80 km/hr. This means that both lines will be able to transport up to 45,000 people/hour!
Egypt’s monorail will connect Cairo’s cities and Giza’s areas to each other, offering a seamless commute to West Cairo’s residents as well as New Administrative Capital.
With that in mind, living in either East or West of Cairo wouldn’t mean no connectivity.
All in all, Egypt’s monorail will positively affect every citizen’s life, thanks to helping shorten commute times. And it will also help people park their cars and forget the hassle of rush hours and being stuck driving all day!
The prices of Egypt’s monorail are yet to be determined. They are expected to be affordable, guaranteeing hassle-free commuting from East and West Cairo, as well as their central areas.
Living or working in 6th of October City or New Capital wouldn’t mean long hours commuting. Plus, with their top real estate developments, choosing to reside there would be smart.
